After a few weeks' worth of unsuccessful attempts to feed Allie rice cereal with a spoon, I finally realized she may not like rice cereal and decided to give veggies a try instead. On Sep 12th (at just over 5 months old), we tried carrots. Success! Since then we've added sweet potatoes to her gastronomic repertoire. Next: butternut squash.
At each feeding session I have to change into grubby clothes, strip Allie down, use an insane amount of wipes, and fend off two cats who are eager to "help" with the mess and who manage to severely distract Allie from the task at hand. And because Allie is such a fan of gnawing on her fists, it's a constant battle for me to keep those fists out of her mouth so I can get the spoon in. It's a set of challenges that provides a lot of laughs.
This picture shows the aftermath of a collision involving Allie's flailing arm and a spoonful of sweet potatoes. The food flew off the spoon and landed square on her nose. She thought that was pretty funny stuff.
