I've fallen into the trap!

Yep. Shopping for baby girl clothes.

As a conservative and responsible person who also hates to shop, I never thought I'd fall into that trap....much less dive in head-first with a running start. Instead, I pictured myself responsibly funneling money into Allie's college savings account, waiting to spend money on clothes until she is in junior high (when having the cool clothes really counts, right?)

But I have now realized I'm no different than anyone else with a pulse and the gift of eyesight. I cannot resist the allure of baby girl clothes.

It all started with the fall sales. Everything was on sale for 20% off; and summer items were marked down significantly on top of that. I purchased several items online -- some for this fall and some for next summer. In my mind, I was merely being frugal and shopping the sales.

Then the clothes arrived.  I found myself carefully laying them all out on the bed, experimenting with every possible outfit combination, and fantasizing about parading Allie around in her fabulous ensembles. And then? I found myself back online looking for more.

To make matters worse, Allie, Donnie, and I made a trip to Gymboree this weekend to exhange a couple of the items that weren't sized correctly. While we were there, Allie tried on this adorable kitty hat:

We ended up buying the hat, along with almost every other item in the "kitty collection": Leapard-print jumper with matching leapard shoes, red cardiagan sweater with removable faux fur leapord collar, tights with a kitty on the ankle, matching kitty bib, collared bodysuit to go under the jumper or under the sweater, and tiny little cuffed jeans with leapard print inside the cuffs. Even Donnie was giddy from the experience.

All I can say is: Watch out, college savings.
