OK I sound like a broken record. Time is flying, blah, blah. But it is! I can't believe I'm already planning Allie's first birthday party! Here is what Allie is up to at 11 months:
- Claps her hands when she is anxiously awaiting something or is frustrated that she can't communicate. She will only sometimes clap her hands when you play patty cake!
- Gets frustrated and mad if she can't accomplish something she's trying to do -- like turn an individual page in a board book or manipulate a button on an activity board.
- No longer keeps fingers in her mouth, but all objects still go into her mouth.
- Is no longer interested in the jumperoo. She likes to be on the move now. Her new favorite pasttime is the push toy. She loves, loves, loves to walk behind the push toy. She pushes it into a wall, then walks around to the front of it and starts pushing it back in the opposite direction. She has an insatiable appetite for this activity!
- She no longer likes to be carried; but she doesn't want you to set her down either. Instead, she wants you to hold her hands while she walks. She giggles with delight the whole time and really gets angry if you stop or try to put her down. She loves walking!
- Still refuses to eat finger foods or anything with texture -- with the exception of Gerber Puffs, which she expertly feeds herself. All the other kids in her daycare class sit at a table and eat chunks of fruit and meat and cheese while Allie eats puffs. Allie has to be spoon-fed her purees for regular meals. (However, she will eat cat food out of the cat bowl. Go figure..) I hope she's just a late bloomer in this area and there are no serious problems.
- Sleeps 11.5 hours per night and goes down perfectly every evening. As a matter of fact, as soon as I walk to her crib, she leans and reaches out for it as if she wants me to hurry up and put her in it. Once I set her down she lays her head right down. She never wakes in the middle of the night unless she's ill. She takes a 1.5-2 hour nap at daycare.
- Still loves to sit on the bathroom counter with me as I get ready in the morning. In fact she insists on it.
- FINALLY jabbers "mamama" almost as often as "dadadada".
- Loves filling and emptying. She loves to put objects into a bin, the bathroom sink, the bathtub, the cat's water bowl, anything!
- Loves to take all the silverware out of the basket in the dishwasher.
- If she's working hard or even slightly concentrating, she sticks her tongue out the side of her mouth. It's hilarious.
- LOVES to unroll the toilet paper. I've had to resort to just keeping the roll on the bathroom counter so she can't get to it any more. If she can reach it, she'll unroll the whole thing and then try to eat some.
- Can climb the stairs like a champ. She's very interested in going down the stairs too; but hasn't figured out how to manage that yet.
- Has a "shy" routine. If I'm holding her and someone approaches her, she jerks her head around dramatically and faces the opposite way, smiling. Then she'll turn back around and smile at the person for a split second, only to jerk her head right back around again.
- Has 6 teeth: 4 on top, 2 on bottom.
- Absolutely loves animals and has no fear. At Petsmart, she reaches out to all the doggies she comes across. If their owners will let her touch the dog, she giggles with delight. She still gleefully chases our cats; but they are growing less and less tolerant of her.
- When she's tired or very relaxed, she puts her hands behind her head as if she's an old man lounging in a recliner! It's really funny.
- Won't keep shoes or socks on. I figured out that daycare just puts her shoes/socks away soon after she arrives and puts them back on right before I pick her up!
