I Heart Allie

I'm just about ready to transition Allie from diapers to "Big Girl Underwear".  I recently bought a package of little undies with her favorite movie characters on them (Jessie and Bullseye from Toy Story).  Tonight after we got home, I put Allie in a pair for the first time and told her that we were going to practice wearing big girl underwear this evening.  Because I anticipated accidents, I dressed her in the undies and nothing else.

Shortly afterwards, while working in the kitchen, I heard Allie (who was watching Toy Story in the living room) say "uh oh!"  Then I heard little feet running on the wood floor towards the kitchen.  When she rounded the corner, I saw that she was naked, was wearing her signature heart-melting smile, and was holding her underwear in her hand.  As she held her undies out to me in a gesture that said, "put these back on me, please", I realized she hadn't had an accident -- she had merely taken her undies off while she was engrossed in Toy Story, realized she really needed to have them on, and then run into the kitchen so I could put them back on her.  The smile on her face revealed how funny she thought the whole thing was.

I am probably not doing the story justice; but it was just one of those endearing moments that totally captures the essence of your child and you find yourself saying, "please God, grant me the ability to remember this years from now and play it back in my mind as if it were yesterday."  I know that is not likely to happen though; and it just makes me sad!  Why is life so cruel that way?!

Although parenting a two-year-old certainly involves daily tests of my patience, I still LOVE THIS AGE!  I am so grateful for this precious girl.
