Memorial Day Weekend 2011 was, we think, the first time all of Grammy and Pops' grandkids were in the same place at the same time. It was a beautiful weekend that allowed for lots of pool time; and it was great fun to watch all the kids. Allie absolutely loved being around her cousins. She worships Sophie and emulated everything Sophie did.
Here's a photo-recap of the weekend. Most of the pictures are sub-par because I was trying to capture fast-moving kids with my phone camera; but oh well - they convey enough.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON:
Allie and Soph in the golf cart. Can't you just see Allie's admiration for Sophie in this picture?
SATURDAY EVENING:
After a day at the pool, Grammy recorded all the grandkids' measurements on the garage wall and then broke out the bubbles, hula hoops, and tricycles in the driveway. We adults relaxed in lawn chairs and watched the kiddos entertain themselves.
Addy was a hula champ! She could even do it around her neck!
Addy was so good in fact, she inspired Sophie and Allie to give it a whirl.
Here is a video of Allie's attempt at the hula hoop. She gave it a valiant effort! I love the end though, where she appears to just say, "Aw, %#$@ it!" and then walks off.
After the driveway fun, all the kids piled onto Grammy's golf cart for a ride around the block. Allie immediately started singing "Old MacDonald" (as she does almost every time she rides in a car). Apparently, her enthusiasm was contagious because we could hear all the kids belting out Old MacDonald at top volume from over a block away as they approached home on their way back. It just got louder and louder as they got closer to home. I'm confident the entire neighborhood was thoroughly entertained. According to Grammy, Allie chose "SNAKE!" when it was her turn to choose the animal that was on Old MacDonald's farm -- right on par with her current fascination with snakes.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON:
All of Sunday was spent in the pool -- no surprise there.
MONDAY MORNING
Because Brady, Sophie, and Allie all had birthdays recently, they had a little birthday party. Sophie had a great suggestion before the party: to make a "Happy Birthday" banner. Grammy drew the outline and the rest of us pitched in to color each letter. It turned out great! Afterwards the kids all exchanged gifts and had cake.
Allie got lots of Toy Story stuff. Sophie got lots of princess stuff and a dress from Allie; and Brady got a very cool bicycle helmet (and of course some Star Wars stuff)!
Monday afternoon when we had to leave to go home, Allie cried and said she didn't want to go. I felt so bad making her go back to our boring house with boring 'ol me! Ever since, she has talked about her cousins and wanting to see them again. I hope they will all be close -- they really are all great kids. Can't wait till 4th of July!
